Taste-of-Nature-Walking Mountains Science Center annual galaAvon, Colo. July 8, 2015 – Walking Mountains Science Center was overwhelmed with the generosity of the community on Tuesday, July 7th at their annual fundraising event, A Taste of Nature, held at their Science Center in Avon. The event was sold out with the largest attendance to date of over 350 guests. Through the generosity of the community, they were able to raise over $450,000 (88% increase from previous year) in just one night to continue their mission of awakening a sense of wonder and inspiring environmental stewardship and sustainability through natural science education.

“It was a magical and inspiring evening for Walking Mountains Science Center. We are truly lucky to have a community whose generosity comes second to none when it comes to supporting our mission. The funds we raised are instrumental to fulfilling our mission and we would like to thank the community for their support,” said Markian Feduschak, President of Walking Mountains Science Center.

The highlight of the evening was honoring two very special couples that call the Eagle Valley home. Alix and Hans Berglund received the 2015 Founder’s Stewardship Award to recognize their commitment to inspire environmental stewardship and encourage fellow citizens to care about the natural world. Kelly and Sam Bronfman received the 2015 Reach for the Peak Award to recognize their philanthropy, focusing on conservation, education and health care, which has played a transformational role, both locally and globally. The award came with something special, a proclamation from Governor John W. Hickenlooper officially declaring July 7th Kelly and Sam Bronfman Day. Click here to view the proclamation.

“I can’t think of two more deserving couples to receive awards this year. They are leaders in our community and all of us at Walking Mountains are humbled by their continued support of our mission,” said Pat Tierney, Board Chair, Walking Mountains Science Center.

Make sure to mark your calendars for early July, 2016 as A Taste of Nature has proven to be an event you don’t want to miss.  In the meantime, come explore nature with them this summer at any of their three locations in the Eagle Valley.
