Avon In-School

Supporting local schools through place-based science education.

Program Overview

The Avon In-School program is a partnership between Walking Mountains and Eagle County School District’s Avon Elementary School. Walking Mountains provides a teacher to Avon Elementary to teach the place-based, hands-on, natural science and environmental education curriculum to all Avon Elementary students. This class is part of the school’s specials rotation and all students participate in the Avon In-School program once a week throughout the school year.

The curriculum is designed to spiral and build upon itself from kindergarten through 5th grade. In each academic year, students study four our five topics as part of themed units.  All units align with the state science standards and are designed to support the primarily English language learner student population of Avon Elementary.

For more information about the Avon In-School program, please contact Dina Patsiavos, Avon In-School Teacher, at dinap@walkingmountains.org or 970.827.9725.
