As our administrative "move-in" date looms closer (July 15th!), the construction crew at the new Walking Mountains Science Center is completing tasks daily.  Last week, the solar panels were installed and the driveway was paved.

The new center is home to 192 solar panels: 136 photovoltaic panels that generate electricity, and 56 solar thermal panels that generate hot water and heat.  In total, the system will save approximately $6,000/year.  According to Jason Perez of Conundrum Technologies, "Western Colorado is probably the best place in the U.S. for solar energy".  Once we move in and start consuming resources, we'll be able to see measurable, real-time results via our building dashboard.  In turn we can "trim the sails" so to speak and begin to understand more about how to conserve energy and resources.

The new Walking Mountains Science Center is located just off the I-70 exit in Avon, CO at the corner of Nottingham and Buck Creek Road.  We will be opening to the public in a community celebration on August 20th from 10am - 3pm.
