This all-season bloomer is one of the most recognizable, tastiest, and most useful of all native wildflowers. Yarrow blooms from early June through the end of the summer and is readily confused with Queen Anne’s Lace. The bitter leaves and stem can be used as a replacement for hops in beer and the stem and roots have been used by Native Americans and settlers as a blood coagulant for centuries. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) appears in planter baskets in all different colors but the only true native bloom color is white.
