The Collaborative

Our Purpose

The impacts of climate change are happening now and will continue into the foreseeable future. The Eagle Valley community prioritizes climate action as an urgent priority so that current and future generations of Eagle Valley citizens and guests can enjoy a flourishing year-round economy, recreational experiences, and a healthy resilient ecosystem that enhances the well-being of all.

The Climate Action Collaborative for the Eagle County Community is a group of local governments, businesses, schools, special districts and nonprofits tasked to implement the recommendations of the Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community. The plan recommends county-wide carbon pollution reduction targets of 25% by 2025 and 80% by 2050, from the Eagle County 2014 baseline inventory.

The Collaborative meets quarterly and includes working groups focusing on reductions in: buildings (residential & commercial), transportation, the landfill, and our energy supply. There is also a working group dedicated to education and outreach in the Eagle Valley.

Our Goal: Reduce emissions 25% by 2025 and 80% by 2050.

Using 2014 as a baseline, our community has two paths forward: one is to continue emitting at the same rate. The other is to begin taking actions, by sector, to reduce by 25% by 2025. The difference creates a pie-shaped triangle [see graphic below]. Divide that area into further slices and now we have a road-map that will guide us to our goal.

Each slice of the pie is a different aspect of our Eagle Valley emissions: Buildings, Waste, Transportation & Energy Supply. Each sector has goals that are custom built for our community (i.e. 25% reduction in building energy use by 2025). Add each of the sector goals together and combined they will meet our community-wide Climate Action Plan goals.
