Water Conservation and Energy Water Conservation Climate Action Plan Eagle County Colorado

Water Conservation and Energy Water conservation reduces demand for both water and energy. Conserving water can play an important role in reducing carbon emissions. The storage, transport, and delivery of water for commercial, residential, and agricultural needs lead to significant emissions. The streams and rivers also provide a vital lifeline for wildlife and summer recreation, as well as, ranchers and farmers who depend on the water for their livelihood.

The Climate Action Plan recognizes the importance water plays in our local climate and outlines several strategies to address over consumption of water use locally:

Educate people that all water consumed has to be pumped and processed, requiring energy

Reduce use of water in residential and commercial properties

Develop small hydro plants for electricity generation

Work with HOAs to promote low water use and energy efficiency practices

Promote water conservation – native grasses, organic matter, xeriscaping
