Free Guided Snowshoe Tours on Vail Mountain

Take in the epic views of Colorado’s Holy Cross Wilderness and escape the crowds with these leisurely free guided snowshoes with an expert guide trained as a Certified Interpretive Guide and Wilderness First Responder.

These programs have ended for the Winter 2018/19 season. Check back in Fall 2019 for more information!

Snowshoes are provided, but please come prepared to spend an hour outside in the winter environment with snow pants, warm hats, gloves and sturdy waterproof boots. Participants depart from the Nature Discovery Center. All visitors must have a valid ski pass or Vail Scenic Ride Ticket in order to ride the gondola before 3:30 pm.  Online registration is required for all free snowshoes. Family Snowshoe Exploration

2018/19 Schedule: Daily | 11:00 am-12:00 pm

Introduce your little ones to North America’s first sport, snowshoeing! A Naturalist will take you on a gentle walk and introduce the family to winter nature on the mountain. Designed for families with children ages 4-9, FREE.

Daytime Snowshoe Tours

2018/19 Schedule: Daily | 2:00 pm-3:00 pm

Travel by snowshoes on an educational tour through the forests atop of Vail Mountain. Learn about winter ecology and animal adaptations as you gaze at majestic mountain views. Ages 10 and up, FREE.

Evening Snowshoe Tours

2018/19 Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday | 5:30 pm-6:30 pm

Meet the amazing natural characters of Vail Mountain that become more perceptible after the skiers leave. Travel by snowshoe as you learn about the habits of nocturnal animals in the serene evening forest. Program is conducted in darkness or low light for most of the winter season. Ages 10 and up, FREE.
