From October 18-30, 2022 Walking Mountains Science Center is hosting a series of mysterious events for all ages to celebrate the season of spookiness. We hope you’ll join us for one, or many, of this year’s Fright at the Museum activities or events!

WHEN: October 18, 2022

TIME: 10-11:30am

WHERE: Walking Mountains Science Center

COST: $5/adult & $5/child

Children will explore the natural world and have fun with others while developing their sense of place. Topics vary weekly and help children express their inherent wonder and curiosity as little scientists.

    • Designed for 3-5 year old children and their adults.
    • Reservations required. Please confirm that you have selected the correct date and time.
    • Dress for success! Please come prepared to spend an hour and a half outside in the fall environment with layers and sun protection.
    • A small snack is also recommended.

WHEN: October 20, 2022

TIME: 8:30am-3pm

LOCATION: Red Cliff

COST: FREE

Join a frightfully-fun guided hike with Eagle County Historical Society at the Greenwood Cemetery in Red Cliff. The easy hike is about 1 mile with less than 300 feet of elevation gain. Along the way, learn about the history of Red Cliff and hear stories about the lives of the most notable pioneers that are buried at Eagle County’s first graveyard. Advanced registration is required.

WHEN: October 25, 2022

TIME: 6:30-8:30pm

WHERE: Meadow Mountain & Grouse Creek

COST: $35 per person

Join us for a guided hike on the darkest night of the month as we explore Meadow Mountain under the new moon. We’ll make plenty of stops for stargazing and will also learn ways that constellations adapt to light pollution. To finish off the hike we’ll enjoy some warm beverages. This event is completely outdoors, so make sure to dress for the weather! Bring a headlamp if you have one.

The hike starts at the Meadow Mountain Park & Ride and participants will be shuttled to the Grouse Creek Trailhead. From there, participants will hike the Line Shack Connector back to the Meadow Mountain Trailhead. The hike is about 2.25 miles with 500 feet elevation gain. Advanced registration is required.

TIME: 6:00-9:00pm

WHERE: Walking Mountains Science Center

COST: $50 per person

Join actors from Denver’s American Immersion Theater for an immersive and mysterious experience at the museum! Who will solve the crime to make this night of mystery the night it was intended to be?

Let’s set the stage…the crowd was hushed as the museum proprietor got ready to unveil the prized display of the evening, the Stomach of the Ocean Diamond, only to find it had been stolen while the crowd mingled in ignorant bliss.

Now it is up to you, your guests, and the detective to find the thief and restore the diamond to its rightful place to get the unveiling back on track!

Dress in your fanciest evening gowns and suits (100% optional). This is a museum unveiling, after all, and only the finest will do. Tonight will be an evening of high fashion and suspenseful mystery, with one thrilling conclusion.

7:00 – 9:00pm – Solve the mystery of the Heist at the Museum

Visit Walking Mountains to celebrate the season of spooky with our Science Spooktacular! This year, we’ll discover the top secret, code-cracking world of spy science through hands-on activity stations and interactive experiments. Learn about forensic science by dusting for prints, exploring with periscopes, decoding secret messages, and writing with invisible ink.

Plus, Bravo! Vail Music Makers Haciendo Música students and staff will present a Spooky Concert, Spooky Forest Walk, and a Spooky Sounds Instrument Petting Zoo from 10am-Noon on Oct. 29 and 30. Participants will connect the eerie sounds heard in nature to those made by musical instruments.

All events are FREE, family-friendly and for kids of all ages. Costumes are encouraged but are not necessary! Advance registration is requested.
