Specialty Summer Camps

Walking Mountains runs a few specialty camps every summer for some of our year-round program participants. These camps in include, our Girls in Science Hut Trip for students in our Girls in Science Afterschool program, our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Hut Trip for students in our STEM Afterschool Program, and our EVOM (Eagle Valley Outdoor Movement) Weeklong Camp for youth who attend our EVOM Programs.

 

Avon: June 17 – June 21 ($75)

This camp is taught in both Spanish and English. Priority registration for this camp is given to select EVOM families. Select EVOM families will receive instructions via our EVOM Coordinator to access registration prior to open registration.

Camp Description: Learn about our animal friends who wake up when we go to sleep! Explore the mysterious life of nocturnal animals by learning about their adaptations, discovering what they are up to in the middle of the night, and maybe even finding out that they aren’t so scary after all.

Avon: June 24 – June 26 (Sweetwater Property) $375

The Girls in Science Overnight Hut Trip is an extension of our Girls in Science afterschool program and brings programming from the classroom to the outdoors! Available to any ’23-’24 participating Girls in Science students, this two-night summer science camp hut trip offers an opportunity for afterschool participants to bond with girls from different schools across Eagle County who share a passion for science! This science camp program is taught by Girls in Science instructors who are also Wilderness First Responders.

Girls in Science families will receive instructions via email to access registration prior to open registration.

2024 Girls in Science Hut Trip – Scientific Sketching: Study the natural world through the eyes of an artist and a scientist. Learn the lines of leaves, the textures of trees, and the colors of nature’s canvas as you embark on a hut trip with other Girls in Science students. Use art skills to create your own field guide while gaining new knowledge and appreciation for our local flora and fauna.

Avon: July 8 – July 10 (Fowler-Hilliard Hut) $375

Early registration for this camp is given to students who participated in the Walking Mountain’s STEM afterschool program during the ’23-’24 school year. STEM families will receive instructions via email to access registration prior to open registration.

2024 STEM Hut Trip – Biomimicry: Many of the incredible inventions in our world today like cameras, rockets, and medical devices were inspired by nature. Explore the impressive ways nature solves problems with its designs on this exciting overnight hut trip full of time spent making new friends outdoors!
