Akani Bey

Akani grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and has always been passionate about wildlife and connecting with nature. At Elon University in North Carolina, he studied Environmental and Ecological Sciences and also enjoyed working as an Outdoor Trip Guide leading participants on backpacking, kayaking, and climbing trips. Having spent time in the Caribbean and Latin America, Akani is also very interested in culture and languages and loves to meet new people from different communities. From backpacking in Peru to working with farmers in Puerto Rico, he has expanded his palate and music taste, reflecting the diverse cultures he has been exposed to. On this note he is passionate about empowering communities to better understand and steward their local environment and is excited to grow in this role through working with Walking Mountains.
