Discover the Natural Side of Vail Mountain
Explore an array of natural history exhibits about local wildlife such as ravens, weasels, lynx, and black bears. Nature Hikes and Snowshoe Tours are also offered from the Nature Discovery Center.
The Nature Discovery Center located in a yurt and is accessed via the Eagle Bahn gondola out of Lionshead in Vail, adjacent to the Eagle’s Nest building. All ages welcome, free admission.
Winter Hours: December 17 – April 5, 2015: Open Tues – Sat, 11am to 7pm; Sun – Mon, 11am to 4pm.
Programs are offered in partnership between Walking Mountains Science Center, Vail Resorts, and USDA Forest Service.

Nature Discovery Center – Tuesday – Saturday 11am to 7pm, Sunday – Monday 11am to 4pm
Walking Mountains Science Center Naturalists will help you explore an assortment of Rocky Mountain nature exhibits. Come inside to find out what wildlife you might encounter on the slopes of Vail Mountain, watch a short Ske-cology lesson, or learn about snow science. All ages, FREE.
Guided Snowshoe Tours – Daily 2pm-3pm
Travel by snowshoes on an educational tour through the forests atop of Vail Mountain. Learn about winter ecology and animal adaptations as you gaze at majestic mountain views. Please come prepared to spend an hour outside in the winter environment with snow pants, warm hats, gloves and sturdy boots. Snowshoes are provided. Participants sign up at the Nature Discovery Center. Ages 10 and up, FREE.
Evening Snowshoe Tours – Tuesday – Saturday, 5:30 – 6:30pm
Journey into the night under the changing skies. Travel by snowshoe as you learn about the baits of nocturnal animals and other mountain characters while you experience the distinct calm of the evening forest. Please come prepared to spend an hour outside in the winter environment with snow pants, warm hats, gloves and sturdy boots. Program is conducted in darkness or low light for most of the winter season. Snowshoes are provided. Participants sign up at the Nature Discovery Center. Ages 10 and up, FREE.
